Considered one of Reed’s darker and more unsettling releases (I won’t say disturbing, although it very well could’ve been when it was released in the early 70s), Berlin is a loose concept album based around the sordid tale of a fallen relationship in the angry grasp of drugs, depression, suicide, and custody battles.

Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Sallee moved to Austin, Texas in Caroline Says is named after the Lou Reed song of the same name, which appeared on his album Berlin. Her music has been compared to that of Alvvays, Beach House, Molly Burch, Lucy Dacus, The Drums, Grizzly Bear, Mazzy Star, Real Estate, Faye Webster and Yo La Tengo.
